FlexGlide front caster suspension
FlexGlide front caster suspension allows the front tires to flex and absorb bumps from holes, rocks, and tree roots, without transferring impacts to the operator. Homeowners can mow faster, stay comfortable, and enjoy mowing instead of enduring it.
On R-Series models, the combination of FlexGlide™ caster suspension and a 24‑in. (61-cm) high back mechanical suspension seat work together to absorb impacts and cushion the operator’s core and feet. Unlike competitors’ solutions, caster and seat suspension keep the operator stable on moderate terrain while providing cushioning only when it is needed.
Comfortable cut-and-sewn seats
Z515E and Z530M models feature a 21-in. (53-cm) high-back seat, while R-Series models feature a 24-in. (61-cm) adjustable suspension high-back seat. Both seats include:
- Thick foam padding for support and added comfort.
- Side bolsters for greater stability on uneven terrain.
- Premium styling with John Deere logo and green accent details.
- Cut-and-sewn vinyl construction for improved durability, long-term flexibility, and reduced risk of cracking.
- Armrests for extra support.
- 3 in. (7.6 cm) of seat travel for improved comfort and access to controls.
- Tool-free fore-and-aft seat adjustment.
Seat suspension springs (Z515E and Z530M)
On Z515E and Z530M models, two long, steel springs absorb shocks when traveling over rougher areas.
ComfortGlide fore-and-aft suspension (Z530M)
ComfortGlide fore-and-aft suspension allows the seat to glide forward and back over rough terrain:
- Reduces horizontal vibrations and jarring.
- Allows 1-in. (2.5 cm) of front to rear movement.
- Adjustment lever with three positions:
- Slide seat to adjust fore and aft position.
- Engage ComfortGlide fore-and-aft suspension.
- Disengage ComfortGlide to lock seat in position.
Adjustable suspension (R-Series models)
The R-Series Z500 ZTrak models feature an adjustable mechanical suspension with 3-in. (7.6-cm) of suspension travel. An adjustment knob at the front of the seat can be adjusted to suit the operator’s preference for the most comfortable ride. It is recommended to align the arrow on the dial with the operator’s weight.
Floor mats and foot pegs
Z500 ZTrak Mowers include a spacious foot platform that allows the operator to place their legs in a comfortable location. The M- and R-Series models include rubber mats and foot peg upgrades.
Rubber floor mat - A rubber floor mat upgrades styling while dampening vibration. A rubber floor mat is standard on Z530M and R-Series models, and optional on the Z515E model.
Rubber toe mat - A rubber toe mat extends the length of the floor mat to include the front toe board. It is standard on R-Series models and optional on Z515E and Z530M models.
Foot pegs - Foot pegs are secured to the toe board to provide additional foot-placement positions. The pegs also act as handles to remove and replace the foot platform. Foot pegs are standard on the R-Series models, and optional on the Z515E and Z530M models.
Foot platform isolators
R-Series models include foot platform isolators that support the front of the foot platform. The isolators enhance appearance and work in conjunction with the rubber floor mat to reduce vibration on the operator’s feet and reduce rattles.
Cup holder and storage compartment
All Z500 ZTrak Mowers include a dual beverage holder on the left fender and storage compartment on the right fender:
- Beverage holder secures two drink containers of various sizes for longer mowing jobs.

Productivity - getting the job done fast
Deep mower-deck design delivers high productivity, which gets the job done fast. It allows room for the cut and suspended material to exit the deck quickly, reducing the amount of recutting so more power is available to process incoming grass:
- Greatly improves the mower’s capacity to maintain excellent mowing performance and cut quality in difficult mowing conditions and at higher speeds
- Even in mulching mode, cut evenness is improved compared to other designs because the additional depth allows for continuous circulation, optimal recutting, and an even distribution of clippings.
Large discharge opening is both high and wide to handle more material:
- Gives a smooth, even discharge of clippings at all mowing speeds
- Reduces the chance of plugging, especially important when operating in wet, thick, or dense grass and when bagging
Cleanliness - for the mower and the operator
Cleaning a mower deck is one of the most frequent maintenance activities. The flat-top shape of the deck forging is optimal for keeping itself and the operator clean:
- There are few places to catch and hold material on top and underneath the deck.
- Top of deck stays cleaner, reducing time and effort needed for cleaning and service
- Underside of deck is self-cleaning to maintain optimum performance without buildup of material to interfere with the flow of air and clippings
- Less need to clean and remove buildup of material from underside of deck
- The depth of the Accel Deep Mower Deck minimizes the amount of material that escapes from the front of the deck.
- Limited amount of material drifts onto the operator and mower deck
- Even for material discharged out the chute, less recutting results in larger pieces that are less likely to end up on the operator
- Mulching prevents the discharge of material completely and MulchControl makes mulching a practical solution for most mowing situations.
A wash port and hose connector are provided to make cleaning the underside of the mower deck easy.
Superior durability is designed in
Accel Deep Mower Decks have strong spindle pockets to keep the blades aligned, even after years of tough service:
- Forged from strong 10-gauge, 0.135-in. (3.4-mm) steel
- Ribs in the deck shell add strength where it is needed.
- Mower wheels are double captured:
- Provides greater strength and durability for longer, trouble-free life
- Single-bolt adjustment makes setting wheels to the correct cutting height quick and easy
- Low-tension belt-drive design reduces the side load on engine lower bearings and mower deck bearings for longer life.
- A 5/8-in. (16-mm) diameter solid-steel rod side guard provides extra strength and protection.
- Dual-stage E-coat and powder-paint coatings provide extra protection from rust.
Versatility - easy to change between side discharge, mulch, and bagging modes
Accel Deep Mower Decks are designed for maximum versatility, providing the greatest ease in changing from one mower discharge mode to another:
- With MulchControl, changing from side discharging to mulching or vice versa is done with the simple flip of a lever.
- On 48A and 54A Mower Decks, the Power Flow rear bagger can be used with MulchControl by simply using the MulchControl lever to move the mulch baffle to the side-discharge position.
MulchControl option
The MulchControl system for Accel Deep Mower Decks is an optional field-installed attachment and makes mulching practical for many mowing situations because it not only does an excellent job of mulching, but it also allows the mower to be easily converted for times when it is more desirable to side discharge or collect lawn material.
Advantages of mulching grass clippings include:
- A beautiful looking lawn
- Grass clippings not blown onto the operator, driveways, or flower beds
- Less fertilizer required
- Elimination of the effort needed to dispose of clippings

I bought this mower with the expectation that I was buying a John Deere quality mower. At 50 hours of service I had to return to the dealer because the left steering motor quit pulling when mower gets warm. I have seen several reviews with this issue on the Z500 series mower. I wish I had them sooner.

My first John Deere was a 2011 Z425. That machine was amazing - built to last and super tough. To say that this new series is a poor comparison is almost too generous. I'm so disappointed with it, and it will likely be the last John Deere I ever buy. Everything about the build and body of this machine seems cheaper than in the past. It rattles, and it has VERY limited power. It can't cut even the slightest bit of taller grass so don't even try - it will just stall out. My past machine would breeze through taller grass without any strain on the engine. This one can't handle it. Also, be prepared...this machine blows all of the grass clippings directly in your face when you turn. I have to wear safety glasses when I mow the lawn - it's ridiculous. Also be prepared for the fact that it is very fussy to start - you have to have the choke in exactly one little spot, or the engine just whines without turning over. Braking is also "interesting" - in the older model if you disengaged the hand grips that machine stopped dead - in this one if you disengage the hand grips you'll roll until you can pull the brake up. Overall - seems like the old "nothing runs like a deere" does not apply here unless the deer we're referring to is lame.

Bought the machine one month ago and it is a good solid mower. There is a bit of vibration. Dealer replaced the deck belt and tension-er spring and checked blades, spindles, and deck pulleys under warranty but the vibration remains. Will keep watching and checking. We need to check it against another new one.

I bought my John Deere over 2 months ago and I’m truly enjoying it. I’ve been saving time cutting my 5 acres vs using my old craftsman mower.

I bought the mower a few weeks ago and it has worked better than I expected. I previously owned an exmark which has an excellent cut. The John Deere has an equally good cut. The quick change from mulch to discharge is great. The engine has plenty of power for the mower
